Women’s Risk of Breast Cancer in the United States
It is estimated that 12.9% of women who were born in the United States today will develop breast cancer during their lives. According to the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results report, the risk that a woman will receive a breast cancer diagnosis during the next 10 years is 0.49% in the age 30 group, 1.55% in the age 40 group, 2.40% in the age 50 group, 3.54% in the age 60 group, and 4.09% in the age 70 group. It is important to note that an individual’s risk for breast cancer can be lower or higher depending on certain risk factors. Lifetime risks of breast cancer vary from year to year based on risk factor levels in the population, changes in screening rates, and other data.
