Looking Into Potential Over-Diagnosis in Breast Cancer

Because of advancements breast screening technology, the sensitivity of screening has grown causing greater detection rates in nonlethal cancers. A recent review sought to bring awareness to the risks of over-diagnosis while providing rationale for screening through clinical breast exams as a potential alternative to more advanced technology screening. The review notes that there is evidence that suggests that because of the advancement of adjuvant systemic therapies, mortality benefits from screening through clinical breast examination may be comparable to more modern methods.
